In a recent review for The Weekend Australian Magazine, Ross Bilton described the Senz Original Umbrella as below:

What is it? An umbrella designed to stand up to a gale.

Why do you need one? Cheap, compact umbrellas turn inside-out and become an eye-gouging, flapping mess when the wind’s up. Golf umbrellas are more robust but also hard to handle. Surely there must be a clever design solution? Senz certainly thinks so.

It’s shaped like those funny helmets worn by cyclists in the velodrome. Exactly. It’s all about aerodynamics. The spokes are also reinforced, and the stem is quite short, which eases the strain on your wrist. Senz says it can handle 100kmh winds (for any budding Mary Poppins out there, that’s not a challenge).

How does it perform? We tested it in a park on a day when small dogs were blowing about like tumbleweed. It felt light and manageable; it really works. And despite our best efforts – digging our heels into the ground and holding it in the face of the wind like a sail – we just couldn’t get it to turn inside-out.

Any caveats? The coverage at the sides isn’t exactly generous, so if the rain’s coming in at an angle you might get wet legs. On the other hand, coverage at the back is more than ample – handy for those blessed with a Serena Williams booty.
