“The best thing my dad taught me was not to repeat the opinions of others and to always stick to my guns. ‘People will always want you to agree with what they think’ he’d tell me, ‘But at the end of the day you need to see the world with your own eyes, not through the lens of someone else’. As an impressionable, sensitive kid who wanted to make friends this was a hard mantra to stick to. But as a young man I understand what he wanted to teach me. If you want friends then find some who respect what you have to say. If you want a career then find one that let’s you blaze your own path.”
