The best advice my dad gave me: Roberta Perry, ScrubzBody™

“My dad taught me how to stand up for myself and not let anyone bully me into anything.”
– Roberta Perry

“His mom had made a “match” in her mind with my dad and her neighbor’s daughter, so she never cared for my mother much when my father said he was engaged. Through all the years my father stood his ground and stood beside my mother, eloped with her, withstood years of family criticism and to this day, even with Alzheimer’s, loves her as much as he did then.

After years of being selfless and taking care of everyone else, (OK, that is my humble opinion, but work with me here) my skin was dry, itchy and irritated. In 2005, at 43, I finally realized that taking care of my skin and myself was important. I discovered exfoliating products, but like the proverbial Goldilocks, none were completely satisfying my needs and wants. I headed for the kitchen and played like a “mad chemist” to create my own. With lots of research and trial and error, I mixed up different combinations of botanical oils and came up with a winner. I brought in my sister, who has since passed and we started ScrubzBody™, in 2006, in my home. The business quickly moved to a renovated garage and then to a small manufacturing/store front, in Bethpage, NY in 2011. We moved to a larger space in 2014 and plan to move again in late fall of ’17. After all these years, we are proud of the fact that our products are still handcrafted with love in small batches. We host Make Your Own ScrubzBody™ Scrub parties for kids of all ages. We sell retail, private label and wholesale. We donate to 6 charities, on a regular basis, with different scents of our products that give back, and we co-hosted The Breast of Everything for 10 years.

I was a featured speaker on Indie Business Cruise 2016 and Launch Live Speakers Summit 2016 about getting Free Publicity for your small business. My book, “The Power of Free Publicity, Using HARO (Help a Reporter Out) to Build Relationships and Get Press Without a PR Firm.” was published in August 2016.
