Useful Gifts: Gifts to make life easier

Useful gifts are underrated

I am a huge fan of useful gifts…which probably sucks for my family and friends. Whilst “useful” gifts have an (unfair) wrap of being boring, hear me out. Nothing makes me happier than a giving a gift that enhances someone’s life for the better, especially if they can use it regularly. I’ve put together a list of some of our favourite useful gifts – many of which also look and smell awesome, as well as being functional.

We’re also offering a $20 DISCOUNT on all orders from now until midnight, Sunday 9/6/19.
Use Discount Code USEFUL in the Discount Code field when you place your order.

This offer can’t be used in conjunction with other offers, or redeemed for cash. But please feel free to share with family and friends:-)

Happy gifting!

Anna Hamp: “The biggest thing I’ve learnt since becoming a mum is…”

“The biggest thing I’ve learnt since becoming a mum is that whatever approach I take to parenting, whatever traditions I establish in my family, whatever way I decide to handle things – is going to be THE normal way for my kids. They don’t compare what I do to the “ideal” mother; in their minds, a “good mother” looks exactly like me.” – Anna Hamp

Mother’s Day Recipe: San Telmo Rudderfish Ceviche

San Telmo is an Argentinian fine dining institution based in Melbourne, and its Rudderfish Ceviche is a crowd-pleaser. Lemon cured rudderfish is the key ingredient in this recipe, prepared with chilli, sweet potato and onion. The dish is easy to prepare and plate at home – perfect for those who would like to prepare a fabulous lunch for their mum’s for Mother’s Day.

Serves five

– 1/2 tsp table salt
– 1/4 red onion thinly sliced
– 1 tsp grated ginger
– 250ml lemon juice

– 20 leaves coriander or micro coriander leaves
– 10ml extra virgin olive oil
– 25g red chilli finely sliced
– 300g Rudderfish or any white fish
– 100g sweet potato peeled and cut into tiny cubes.

1. Place the salt and thinly sliced onion in a bowl and mix
2. Leave to rest for 10 minutes then add grated ginger and lemon juice and
refrigerate overnight.
3. The next day, strain the juice from onion and store both separately for use
when plating up. The onion should look vibrantly pink
4. In a pot, boil or steam the cubed sweet potato for about four to five minutes
or until cooked through and allow to cool completely
5. Slice the Rudderfish into thin pieces, no thicker than 5mm

Plating up:
6. Place the sliced fish down on a plate (something with a small lip to ensure
the liquid won’t spill) followed by the chilli and sweet potato then top with
the remaining ceviche juice
7. The fish will begin to cure and turn opaque. Garnish with the marinated
pink onions and fresh coriander
8. Finish with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil

Melanie Johnson: “The biggest thing I’ve learnt since becoming a mum is…”

“The biggest thing I’ve learnt since becoming a mum is that there’s more than one right or wrong way to be a mum. Ever since I was pregnant, people kept throwing all kinds of advice my way, most of which sounded ridiculous. After the baby was born, I also heard all kinds of opinions, some of the things even made me feel guilty and a failure. So, my advice is to stop listening to all the noise, there are many ways to do motherhood right, you don’t have to stick to some other people’s priorities, find your own instead.” – Melanie Johnson

Melanie Johnson is a manager at Fantastic Services Group, which is one of the leading home improvement companies in Australia. Fantastic Services provide a range of handyman, cleaning, pest control, gardening and rubbish removal services.
