Gift wrapping idea of the week: Personalised kraft gift wrapping

Simply add your gift recipient’s name to their wrapped present in large letters and you’ll never have to use a gift tag again (unless you want to, of course:-)

Laura Howard, blogger of Bugs and Fishes created this fun idea and we think it works well for anyone of any age…

TIP: Have an alphabet of paper templates cut out and ready to trace around so it won’t take you long to cut out a name or message quickly.

Why we love it:
  • You’ll never need to buy another gift card every again!
  • The contrasting patterned paper, such as music sheets, road maps and metallic paper look great against the kraft paper. Blogger and creator of this technique, Laura Howard likes to use bright colours for kids, and more muted tones for adults.
  • It’s a great way of using up scraps of wrapping paper

Gift wrapping idea of the week: How to wrap a pot plant

Pot plants make gorgeous gifts, even for people who wouldn’t call themselves ‘gardeners’. I don’t know many people who wouldn’t appreciate a pot of herbs to sit on their windowsill to use for cooking, or even just a lovely pot of colour to enjoy (instead of a bunch of flowers). A potted flowering plant is also usually cheaper than a bunch of flowers too! The only problems with pot plants is that they can be tricky to wrap…until now! Check out this simple way of wrapping a pot plant

Image from www.buzzfeed.com

Why we love it:
  • We love the simple printed wrapping paper used to wrap these plants – the grey colour also looks great against the green and doesn’t detract from the plant.
  • Whilst you could use ribbon to wrap around your plant, natural twine has a lovely organic look when paired with a simple kraft gift tag.

Gift wrapping idea of the week: DIY gift bag

Sometimes a gift bag is the only way to go for a gift that’s hard to wrap. Did you know how easy they are to make?

Image from www.buzzfeed.com

Why we love it:
  • All you need to make this bag is some good quality wrapping paper. Opt for a heavier weight paper that’s easier to fold and work with, and so the bag is able to hold its shape.
  • You can obviously pick any paper colour/design to custom-make your bag to suit your recipient. You could also use brown kraft paper and get the kids to draw or glue things on it.
  • A sheet of scrapbooking paper would be good for a smaller bag. There are also some great scrapbooking paper designs to choose from.
  • You could make bag handles from the same paper, or choose a contrasting paper so they stand out.
  • Add a handmade gift tag to the handles and your gift bag is complete!

Ten Christmas Gift Wrapping Ideas with Plain Paper

Christmas wrapping paper doesn’t need to be expensive. The below ideas all use plain paper as a base, but are then accessorised with different coloured trims, such as ribbon, metallic pen, gift tags, string and even leaves. You are only limited by time, and your imagination!

Christmas Gift Wrap #1: Kraft paper with red ribbon and metallic writing
No gift tags required here, and the text stands out thanks to the lovely metallic pen. You could also use other festive colours such as silver, red or green with printed ribbon to pick out any of these Christmas colours.

Christmas Gift Wrap #2: Plain paper with candy stripes
This one’s my personal favourite. I love candy stripes and nothing says Christmas more than candy canes! The sky blue colour thrown in here also works well against the red and white.

Christmas Gift Wrap #3: Kraft paper with black and white accessories
Black and white isn’t usually an obvious choice for Christmas, but how chic does this gift look! It also works well with red, gold and silver.

Gift Wrap #4: Kraft Paper with Christmas Bauble
Christmas gift wrapping doesn’t get much easier than this! If you get a matt bauble, you could also write your Christmas message on it with a black marker pen.

Christmas Gift Wrap #5: Plain paper with paper baubles
These paper baubles could also be reused as Christmas decorations for your tree or around the home when the gift has been unwrapped.

Christmas Gift Wrap #6: Kraft paper reindeer
How cute is this family of reindeers?! They also look great grouped together in different sizes.

Christmas Gift Wrap #7: Kraft paper with leaves
Bright green leaves really lift this natural craft paper. You could use any pine foliage or fresh herbs, such as rosemary that your recipient could actually use.

Christmas Gift Wrap #8: Kraft paper with stitching
Ok, so this one’s a little more time-consuming than the other options, and obviously you’d need to know how to thread a needle, but WOW it’s effective!

Christmas Gift Wrap #9: Black paper with black and white ribbon and metallic writing
The blogger who designed this gift wrapping acknowledges that it’s time consuming, but she selected four family members who had simple presents in boxes and only drew on these gifts. All her other gifts were wrapped in black and white houndstooth paper (as seen behind) so they all co-ordinated.

Christmas Gift Wrap #10: Kraft paper with leaves and seeds
Objects from nature are often the most beautiful accessories to use with natural gift wrapping. Look for dried leaves, seed pods and pine cones. You could also spray paint these objects with metallic paint for a festive look.

Christmas Gift Wrapping: Bold Stripes

The great thing about stripes is that you can use them for anyone – at anytime of year. Striped paper or striped ribbon – this gift wrapping style works for Christmas, especially when teamed with red, green, gold or silver ribbon and accessories.

Why we love it:
  • Striped wrapping paper (especially a bold stripe in a gender-neutral colour like this) should be a household-staple. It’s classy and great for any occasion.
  • Paired with a green ribbon and Christmas gift tag, this wrapping has a Christmas feel, but without a hint of tacky glitter.
  • Look for a slightly thicker, better quality wrapping paper. You’ll appreciate this if you’ve ever used cheap wrapping paper on Christmas Eve when you’re frantically trying to wrap last-minute gifts!

Why we love it:
  • Use whatever wrapping paper you like (plain kraft paper has a premium, organic look) and dress it up with these show-stopping striped ribbons.
  • The addition of holly even makes the gift with black and white ribbon look Christmassy. You could also use a star, bauble, Christmas gift tag, or any other accessory that coordinates with your ribbon and wrapping.

Gift wrapping idea of the week: How to wrap a present using plants and flowers

Nature is an awesome source of inspiration, especially when it comes to wrapping gifts!
Here are three great ideas that we’ve found that use an effective combination of leaves, berries and flowers…

Why we love it:
  • The berries add rich, vibrant colour to a simple newspaper wrapping paper.
  • The natural coloured tape adds to the organic feel of this wrapping style.
  • The choice of a simple twine (instead of an elaborate ribbon) makes the berries stand out more.

Why we love it:
  • Choosing a large sprig of leaves (larger than the size of the gift) ensures this element makes a strong statement.
  • All of the other wrapping elements (paper and twine) have been kept plain and simple so that the leaves are the hero.

Why we love it:
  • It’s amazing how different you can make six gifts all wrapped in newspaper look, based on the accessories you choose.
  • For a more masculine look, opt for the natural twine and kraft card, or black and white twine. Add a touch of femininity with a satin ribbon, a doily, crochet lace and flowers.

How to Wrap the Perfect Present: Tips from Rebecca Ridhalgh, JetSet Gel

Due to popular demand, our How to Wrap the Perfect Present tips are back! We love asking for advice on gift-wrapping, as everyone has their own unique tips and tricks on how to wrap a present. This week we caught up with Rebecca Ridhalgh from JetSet Gel.

1. What are the best types of wrapping paper?

Rebecca: Patterned wrapping is the best! But then ribbon should be simple so it’s not too busy.

2. What is your wrapping technique? Why is your method the best?
Rebecca: Best wrapping method is to ensure the wrapping paper is the right size. Too much paper will make the wrapping uneven and bulky in places. Too little…and your gift is a little naked!

3. Ribbon or no ribbon?
Rebecca: We love ribbon and think it really finishes off the wrap. It’s important that the ribbon suits the paper as well.

4. How does your style of wrapping vary for gifts for men, women and kids?
Rebecca: Wrapping often differs for men, women and kids in a number of ways including colours, patterns, ribbon and detail.
Men: neutral or dark colours, more minimal wrapping with simple bold details, ribbons are often plain.
Women: more pastels and warmer colours, more feminine and detailed patterns and ornate ribbons.
Kids: bright and fun colours, the more entertaining and different the better!

5. What are some cost effective/eco-friendly alternatives for presenting a gift beautifully?
Rebecca: Cost effective, eco-friendly AND looks good: wrapping in newspaper. Especially good for guys or kids. Make sure to use a plain ribbon to make it still have the gift wrapped look!

Gift wrapping idea of the week: Kraft paper candles

Looking for a fun way to jazz up some kraft paper gift wrap? These cute candles would be a hit with men, women and even kids…

Washi tape candles on kraft paper are striking and fun!
Image from www.buzzfeed.com
Why we love it:
  • What’s not to love??? These candles are made from washi tape, but you could use paper scraps or pieces of wrapping paper to play around with colour combinations.
  • You don’t have to be artistic or crafty to recreate this look – the drawing is simple and if you use washi tape you just need to be capable of sticking it down!
  • The colours in above image are quite feminine, but by simply changing the colours and patterns this look could be easily adapted for a man or a child.
  • The natural kraft paper makes a great blank canvas, but you could also use black, white or another plain coloured paper for a similar effect.

Gift wrapping idea of the week: How to reuse an old calendar

Calendars. At the end of every year, most people would usually have at least one wall calendar they need to discard. But what to do with them, apart from throw them in the bin? Here’s a gift wrapping idea that’s hard to resist…

Image from www.mery.jp

Why we love it:
  • We challenge you to find a more charming way of reusing an old calendar!
  • Circling your recipient’s birthday and writing a message personalises this wrapping paper even more.
  • Circling the date with a coloured pen and matching the ribbon to this colour makes it stand out even more. The colour also sets off the black and white print.
  • Calendars are usually made of high quality paper, so ideal for wrapping a special gift.
  • There is generally a page-per-month for each of these types of wall calendars, which means plenty of pages to use as gift wrapping for your family and friends (hopefully their birthdays are in different months!)

Gift wrapping idea of the week: Groomsmen gift wrapping

Looking for a creative way to wrap your groomsmen’s gifts? Gift-wrapping their present with their bridal tie looks great and is a lovely way to present them with their tie for your special day…

Image from www.weddingclub.com.au

Why we love it:
  • Simply wrapping your groomsmen’s ties around the present and securing them with a piece of natural-coloured raffia looks really striking, especially with a contrasting/dark coloured wrapping paper. The tie becomes the ‘hero’ of the wrapping, which means you can use a plainer paper underneath.
  • How special would you feel as a groom receiving a gift like this!
  • If your groomsmen are wearing a bow tie instead of a tie, you could also have fun incorporating this into the wrapping too.
